Titanium Grade 5 Flanges: High-Performance Ti-6Al-4V Piping Connections

Baoji Jucheng Titanium Industry Co., Ltd., backed by over 20 years of titanium manufacturing expertise in China's Titanium Valley, produces precision-engineered titanium grade 5 flanges that deliver exceptional strength-to-weight performance. With a minimum tensile strength of 895 MPa and a yield strength of 828 MPa, our Ti-6Al-4V flanges are roughly four times stronger than 316 stainless steel at a density of only 4.43 g/cm³. These flanges, which are produced using controlled forging techniques from our 3,000-ton titanium stockpile, are essential for use in high-pressure chemical processing settings, deepwater offshore installations, and aerospace hydraulic systems. With 41 utility model patents and more than 500 sets of titanium equipment produced annually, we guarantee constant quality by adhering to ASME SB381 and ASTM B381 compliance criteria.

What Are Titanium Grade 5 Flanges?

High-performance piping connection parts made of Ti-6Al-4V alloy (UNS R56400) are called titanium flanges. As stabilizers, this alpha-beta titanium alloy contains 4% vanadium and 6% aluminum.

Grade 5 titanium has better mechanical qualities than commercially pure titanium versions. In a small package, you receive twice the strength of Grade 2 titanium.

Important industrial problems are resolved by these flanges. In aircraft applications, they deal with severe weight restrictions. When subjected to cyclic loads, they offer excellent fatigue resistance. When stainless steels fail, they provide corrosion immunity.

Weld Neck (WN), Slip-On (SO), Blind (BL), Socket Weld (SW), and Threaded (THR) designs are typical. Every design fulfills particular connection and pressure needs.

Chemical Composition

The precise alloy composition ensures optimal performance characteristics:

· Titanium (Balance)

· Aluminum: 5.5-6.75%

· Vanadium: 3.5-4.5%

· Iron: ≤0.40%

· Oxygen: ≤0.20%

Strict control of interstitial elements maintains ductility while maximizing strength.

Key Applications

Aerospace and Defense Systems

Your aircraft hydraulic systems require components that withstand high internal pressures and cyclic vibrations. Titanium grade 5 flanges reduce takeoff weight without compromising safety. They excel in engine bleed air ducting where thermal cycling occurs constantly.

Marine and Subsea Engineering

Deepwater oil and gas exploration demands absolute reliability. These flanges resist crevice corrosion and pitting in stagnant seawater environments. You'll find them in subsea wellheads and riser systems operating under extreme pressure conditions.

Chemical Processing Industries

High-pressure reactors handling oxidizing media benefit from Grade 5's mechanical strength. The flanges maintain integrity in chlorine environments and nitric acid applications where traditional alloys deteriorate rapidly.

Manufacturing Process

Our production follows a rigorous seven-step methodology:

1. Titanium ingot selection from quality-verified stock

2. Hot forging to align grain flow for maximum resilience

3. Heat treatment for stress relief and property optimization

4. CNC machining to precise dimensional tolerances

5. Drilling operations for bolt holes and custom configurations

6. Surface finishing to machined bright standards

7. Marking with material certification and traceability codes

This controlled process ensures every flange meets international quality standards.

FAQ

Q: What pressure ratings can titanium flanges handle?

A: Our flanges accommodate pressure classes from 150# to 2500# depending on size and configuration. Custom ratings are available for specialized applications.

Q: How does Grade 5 compare to commercially pure titanium for flanges?

A: Grade 5 provides approximately twice the strength of Grade 2 titanium. This allows thinner wall designs and more compact flange dimensions in high-pressure systems.

Q: What is the typical lead time for custom flange orders?

A: Standard configurations ship within 2-3 weeks from our inventory. Custom specifications require 4-6 weeks depending on complexity and quantity.

Q: Can these flanges operate in reducing acid environments?

A: While Grade 5 performs well in oxidizing media, Grade 7 (with palladium) is recommended for reducing acids like sulfuric acid. Contact our technical team for environment-specific recommendations.
